TBBS - Shoi-Feng

And this time, a secondary character of The Tales of Ba Sing Se. As I said, I was going to design a firebender...

Name: Shoi-Feng Sun

Age: 24

Gender: Male.

Appearance:
Easy to see: he looks like an average person from the Fire Nation, including hair color and haircut, eyes... he's strongly built and muscled, very compact.

Weapon:
He's been taught to use of many weapons and he can always improvise, but normaly doesn't carry any... and well, currently he carries nothing but his firebending abilities, since he's a prisoner.

Special Ability:
Well, he's a firebender. So basically... yeah. He can heat stuff quickly and his skin is always a bit hotter than normal people's. He's also the master of the poker face.

Personality:
-Good qualities: he can be really sweet and caring, with a somehow nurturing spirit. He's not a bad man, and in normal situations he always has a big smile on his face and a helping hand. He's a dreamer, and has a nice sense of humor. Very loving with the people he loves.
-Flaws: He's stubborn and has a very strong temper, as most firebenders... and he can be very violent, though that's only when he's angry, and he's difficult to piss off in normal situations. He tends to ignore the things he doesn't like, and believes what he wants to believe... he has the ability of being blind only for the things he doesn't want to see.

Different selves:
He has three different selves:
The warrior one, cold, professional, loyal to his nation. Agile, organized, intelligent and precise, very strategic.
The one in the family; caring, loving, happy, a joker. A helpless dreamer, fond of peace and great expectations of the future. The one who wants to get married and have his own family.
And finally, the prisoner; he gets more hot-tempered and hostile, and loses some of his ability of being strategic and precise. He's more like a caged animal when guards are around. His sense of humor has darkened and turned into a bitter sarcasm. Doesn't trust anyone, but has lust for life, so he will do anything to get rid of his chains.

Favorite foods/drinks: Very spicey food, hot tea.

Least favorite foods/drinks: He won't complain about food, because being prisoner doesn't offer you a very colorful menu... but doesn't really like fish very much.

Habits (the good, the bad, and the neutral):
Staring right into people's eyes; playing with fire, juding people without knowing them. Sticking out his tongue at babies.

Hobbies, likes, and dislikes:
He's a lover of silence and good moments of peace, but also enjoys the adrenaline that battles bring him. He likes to swim and play with bonfires, usually creating little animal figures made out of fire to entertain little children. He doesn't like hypocrites nor secrets, and doesn't trust strangers easily. Hates having to lie to people. Loves lillies and pretty, delicate girls.
He's a very big fan of Iroh, the Dragon of the West, and tries to believe he abandoned Ba Sing Se's siege because of the death of his son, not because he softened and became a coward or a rebel. He just feels the need of defending his pride, since he was his hero as he was a kid.

Common words/phrases used:
"Get me outta here and then we'll talk", "Believe me; I swear", "People really miss the most important factor of the Fire Nation invasion..."

Swear words:
Tries not to swear too much in front of children, and to sound polite when he's in the army... but being a prisoner and treated like a rat makes him forget about all that.

Fears:
Not being able to see his family again, the Avatar breaking his future expectations, seeing big heroes and brave soldiers he admired fall into pieces and become cowards. Being drowned, sailing when there's a big storm (he gets seasick).

Morals:
He wants to become a honorable man, and that means being a good solider and an example to follow, fall in love with a girl and marry her, and have his own family. You must also understand that he is a dreamer. He has a big love for the Fire Nation and he's proud of it, but not because of the violence it's causing: for him, this is all about expanding their culture and making other people from other parts of the world get their technologies and education. More like the "good side" of colonization... and he clings to that idea so he won't feel horrified of the terrible things that happen in war.
Children must be protected, and he won't do anything against the law; never trust anyone very quickly. Watch, learn, and only after that, act.

Clothing:
He usually wears the typical Fire Nation soldier's clothes... and during his time in Ba Sing Se until he got caught, he dressed in green, as if he was from the Earth Kingdom. However, when he's about to escape, he changes his clothes again, but he's caught... and his soldier clothes are now in such a terrible state; dirty, ragged...

Seen by other characters as:
This is very controversial.
Some people will see him as a monster, because he's a solider. Najuq, since he's terrified of any person from the Fire Nation, will see him as the Boss of Monsters.
In the Fire Nation he's seen with warmth and sympathy; they love him and think he's a very hard-working boy that will someday be rewarded. Some kids even see him as a hero.
His guards and jailers look at him with disgust, and laugh at him, humiliate him... but some do that to hide their fear.
He is feared and loved; it all depends on the point of view.

Background:
Shoi-Feng was born in the Fire Nation in a middle class family. He has two younger siblings (a boy and a little girl), and lived with his father and mother until he got in the army. Both of his parents are proud of him. Since he basically showed he was a hard-working soldier, he quickly was accepted and liked by higher-rank soldiers.
As you know, Ba Sing Se had been in war with the Fire Nation for about 6 years, sieged... but they had failed and failed all the time. Shoi-Feng is sent there as an undercover spy, and he makes it through easily, to gather information from the inside. Everything went swimmingly... until he fell in love. I have mentioned he hates lying, because to him honor means also being honest, so he had a very hard time hiding his true self to his beloved... until the point he couldn't hold it no longer and he confessed it all, thinking her love would be stronger than all kind of barrier; he was even decided to leave all his love for the Fire Nation behind... but her reaction was different: her love for her Kingdom was stronger and she warned him that she'd report him so he had a few hours to get out of the city. He tried to run away, put on his real clothes, and was about to leave... but it was too late. His jailers didn't want him to change his clothes, so they could mock his firebender pride. Now he's a prisoner and waits for something to change.


And this is it! This character is way different, but I couldn't help myself designing him.
